The team of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre of Green Balkans carried out another activity for the conservation of Egyptian vultures, combining food provision at the vulture supplementary feeding station and educational meetings in the region.
For years, our organisation has been actively working in the Provadiya Plateau area – in addition to maintaining a supplementary feeding station for vultures, our team regularly visits local schools and kindergartens for information campaigns.
As part of the campaign, we conducted a series of educational meetings, visiting students at the Professional High School of Agriculture "Zemya" in the town of Provadiya and the "St. Kliment Ohridski" High School in the town of Dalgopol. Representatives of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre gave a specialised presentation to the students on the "Protection of the Egyptian Vulture in the Balkans" programme – an international initiative uniting Prague Zoo and the City of Prague with Bulgarian organizations BSPB and Green Balkans in breeding and release activities for the species. The meetings turned into a real experience for the students, who learned valuable facts about the biodiversity in their regions, became acquainted with conservation activities for Egyptian vultures, and had the unique opportunity to meet our bird ambassadors from the Centre up close – the Harris's hawk Harry and the little owl Blaga.
We thank the hosts for the warm welcome and the inspiration in the eyes of the young nature defenders!
Project activities are implemented with the financial support of the City of Prague and Prague Zoo within the framework of the project "Protection of the Egyptian Vulture in the Balkans".
