The Green Balkans team, part of LIFE for Falcons project, took part in the closing conference of project LIFE Danube Free Sky - Free Sky For Birds 2026, which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The event combined an intensive two-day conference with a practical cross-border field trip focused on bird safety in energy infrastructure. The meeting was attended by experts in the field from all over Europe. A number of presentations were given on the subject, discussing innovative insulation and diverter designs, and the results of long-term monitoring of bird mortality around power lines in multiple European and non-European countries.

The programmе concluded with a field visit in Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria, where participants observed the installation of diverters on high-voltage lines via drones, saw insulation measures taken against bird electrocution on electrical poles, and installed nesting boxes for songbirds and Saker Falcons on pylons. The team visited the border area between the three countries to learn about conservation efforts for the Great Bustard and the specialised measures to prevent mortality due to collision with man-made infrastructure.

During the event, our team exchanged experience with colleagues from MME/BirdLife Hungary regarding activities to protect the Saker Falcon populations. We both shared our work on the two projects for the species, funded by the EU's LIFE programme, and outlined a plan for future joint activities.
