"Nature Academy" in action again!

Last week, the team of the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project implemented by the Green Balkans again enjoys the presence of young people in the area of ​​our activities in Sakar!

Within two days, young people, zooengineering and ecology students from the Agricultural University - Plovdiv, and veterinary medicine students from the Trakia University - Stara Zagora, participated in many initiatives, part of the "Nature Academy" project.

Different methods for making and placing artificial nests to support the breeding of the Lesser Kestrel were demonstrated to the students. The Green Balkans experts also demonstrated to the participants the approach to monitoring nesting birds through the video surveillance system built in the area of ​​the colony, as the team was able to identify more than 10 pairs of rare falcons.

The place of farm animals in the activities of restoration of extinct species to manage their habitats and support their populations was also discussed. The techniques for determining the age of small ruminants and veterinary medical examinations in field conditions of goats of the indigenous breed - Bulgarian vitoroga long-haired goat were also demonstrated. "All this was part of the visit of the young people with us and the development of the recently popular "Nature Academy" project", said Dr Rusko Petrov from the Rescue Center!

And the lecturers from the Department of Animal Sciences at the Agricultural University, the veterinarians of the Rescue Center and, of course, last but not least, the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project team took care of the accumulation of new knowledge of future specialists funded by the European Union's LIFE program.
