Five barn owls hatched at the Green Balkans Rescue Center – a step closer to the wild!

A little before they grow up and become adult birds, five of the barn owls, hatched at the Green Balkans Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center in Stara Zagora, were moved from their home nest at the Center.

The birds were hatched and reared at the Rescue Center and were now moved in a special nursery room. The nursery has two functions – a safe place for the chicks to grow up with a special window we can open when it is time for them to leave and join the wildlife. So it is the perfect release site!

After the birds were carefully examined, dewormed, weighed and ringed by the vets at the Center, we left them in the room and waited for them to leave on their own.

Until that time comes, we will continue taking care of the chicks!
How about back in the parents’ nest? Well, there is a brand new egg there, apparently the diligent parents didn’t want to be out of work for the summer!
