A few days ago, the Green Balkans Rescue Center team opened the adaptation aviary (hack) in the area of the Center, from which 31 young Lesser kestrels flew away.

Much of the birds were placed in the aviaries in mid-June, still being chicks. There they stayed adapting to their new home, the sky above the Rescue Center and Stara Zagora, until our team decided that it was time to be released.
During their stay, 9 adult Lesser kestrels, released in the same way last year, visited the little ones, curious to look into the aviary or attracted by the food in it!

Released kestrels are hatched in the Center. But these are not all of the Center's youngsters who have flown to freedom this year. Earlier in July 12 birds hatched from us, accompanied by 6 small ones, arrived from Levka and raised by foster parents in the Center, have been transferred to the Module for Adaptation and Release of Lesser Kestrels in the village of Levka, Sakar.

We remind you that last year 38 Lesser kestrels hatched in the Center were released by the same method, thus the number of released birds in the region of Stara Zagora, of this rare species for Bulgaria, is 69 in total.

The birds are still staying in the aviary area, feeding on the food left by our team. Quite soon, however, they will leave their native home and migrate to the south. And we will be waiting for them to return next summer again!
