With care for the Lesser Kestrels
19.11.2021During the winter vacation of the Lesser Kestrels, when the birds are far to the south, the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project team continues to take care of their homes.
For example, a few days ago, experts, breeders, field assistants and part of the Wildlife Rescue Center's team visited the village of Levka. There, as you know, is the largest and first in Bulgaria for decades colony of the species, which returned thanks to the efforts of the Green Balkans.
Now that the birds are gone, this is the moment when our team can peek into the nesting grounds - home of bird families from early spring until autumn. In addition to checking that they are healthy, we also clean the inside, disinfect them and change their bedding.
Thus, when they return from the long journey, the Lesser Kestrels will find their homes clean and tidy, ready to be a safe and comfortable home for their families and the little ones they will raise there!
The presence of our team on the spot, on the other hand, was an occasion for talks in the direction of organizing the work, strengthening the new colony near the Rescue Center and organizing the future breeding season.
