This week we sent off another 17 White storks from the aviaries of the Green Balkans Rescue Centre to warm countries.
We hope this is really the last group of feathered harbingers of spring that we are releasing this year. Because time has passed, and their path is long.
The special thing this time was that in addition to the regular deworming, inspection, and marking with rings of the Bulgarian Ornithological Centre, a satellite transmitter was put on one of the birds.
Thus, our team, and all the curious around us, will be able to follow the bird on its long journey of migration, its return to the homeland, and why not its first love thrills in creating a family and raising a generation.
Along with the storks, hedgehogs and goslings were released, bred at the Centre.
Of course, this time we would not have been able to do this without our volunteers, students from the Trakia University and the University of Forestry, participants in the 'Student Internships - Phase 2' project of MES, funded by the Operational Program 'Science and Education for Smart Growth', co-financed by the European Social Fund.
We would also want to thank the dozens of guests at the event who made it a real feast with which we sent off the summer!
