We released the first four Saker falcons for 2021

17.05.2021
The first four Saker falcons for 2021 are already eagerly awaiting freedom, huddled in the safe "embrace" of the adaptation aviary, high in the branches of a tree.

Yes, these are the first falcons hatched in the Green Balkans Rescue Centre for 2021 and the first to be on the verge of freedom. They were placed in the aviary by the 'Reintroduction of the Saker Falcon in Bulgaria' project's team at the end of last week.

Every day, the field associate of the project monitors their condition through specially designed video surveillance and feeds the little ones twice.

We are happy to note that the falcons are currently in excellent health and have an enviable appetite. Even, quite stoically, they have already experienced the first storm in their lives!

At the end of this week, with the discretion of the project team, we will open the top of the aviary so that the little ones can fly when they feel safer.

And then we will continue to observe them from a distance and take care of them, serving them food in specially designated places.

We are doing all this in the name of the returning of the species to our country, hoping that the released young will come back one day and raise their children in the area.

The 'Reintroduction of the Saker Falcon in Bulgaria' project is funded by Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund and Armeec JSC.
