A few days ago we moved one of the four adaptation aviaries under the 'Reintroduction of the Saker falcon in Bulgaria' project.
The aviary was placed within the project in the distant 2014 and for several consecutive years, a total of 12 young falcons hatched at the Rescue Centre were successfully released from it.
But why did we have to move it?
From 2014 until now, the area around the hack has changed significantly - from mostly pastures, it has become arable land. This significantly reduced the chances of young falcons flying out of the hack to survive on their own. That's why our team decided to move it.
We used the removal of the cage to improve and lighten its construction before putting it in its new place.
We look forward to the time when the cage will become a temporary home for the falcons hatched this year at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre. Until then, the video surveillance placed above it will show us the wild guests who visit it.
