Veio the Saker falcon has returned home

He was the only male Falcon from the group of four young birds hatched this year at the Green Balkans Centre for Wildlife in Stara Zagora, he was released in mid-June and is now home again. The Adventures of Veio started the moment he left his second home, an adaptation aviary ( hack ), and headed north. His record shows he has overcome a great distance, leaving far behind his sisters Hala, Vihra and Storm. The week before the young Falcons return home, we had serious concerns that the bird may be dead.
According to the tracking specialists from IBER, more than 10 days of Vieos' transmitter signals had come from the same place, a possible sign that something was wrong.
But with the help of our Ukrainian counterparts a search was organized in the area and on the horizon Veio was seen flying South.

For several days Stara Zagora was the young falcon's home. And as foster parents we tried to meet his needs properly, offering him delicious and nourishing food.

In contrast his two sisters Hala and Vihra preferred the pleasant breeze of the south wind in the Greek holiday resorts.

Vihra did not go farther than Bucharest and is already enjoying the warm sun on the outskirts of Thessaloniki.

Feeling a little more adventurous, Hala initially went to Moldova and then she spent some time Ukrainian Black Sea. Sharp frost and early snowstorms in this region of the world were not to her liking and she headed south. She is currently staying at the most southern point of all, Zakynthos in Greece.

As we reported earlier, the fourth falcon, Storm was found near Ploesti, Romania and transported to the Rescue Center in the middle of last month. But despite the efforts of veterinarians at the Centre and our colleagues from the University of Thrace, young Storm was lost.

We will keep you informed of the most exciting moments in the lives of the young Falcons . And we wish them success, good luck and fair winds.
