The team of Green Balkans set 120 tortoises free

We would like to remind you that they were placed at the Rescue center of Green Balkans after being seized from an offender in the area of the town of Rakovski.

By the end of the trail that continued for a few weeks the tortoises were placed at the Center for safekeeping. After its end, the offender was sentenced to 7 months probation and the team of Green Balkans was allowed by the court to return the tortoises to their natural habitat – the wild nature.

After brief consultations with leading specialists in the field, the most appropriate place for this was chosen; the location shall not be specified for safety reasons. Now then, yesterday, the 120 tortoises set off.

We are happy to share that the examination of the reptiles, immediately before their release, showed a significant improvement of their condition, having in mind the high degree of dehydratation most of them suffered upon their arrival.
There was a team of REIWs present on site, on whose territory the tortoises were set free and the respective protocol of findings for the campaign was drawn up.

We thank the Gea Celonia Foundation and Dr. Georgi Popgeorgiev for their assistance.
