The Griffon vultures at the Green Balkans Rescue Center were the first to lay an egg for this year!
They managed to get ahead of everyone, even themselves ;) as last year the pair laid an egg on 18.01. Unfortunately, we cannot be sure exactly when this year’s egg was laid, as we cannot observe the nest directly through our cameras.
We’d like to remind you, that this is a second breeding season for the pair at the Rescue Center. Last year their egg was not fertile. The male is also the proud father of the first and only griffon vulture, hatched at the Rescue Center – Parvolet in 2014. The subsequent unsuccessful attempts with his old partner encouraged the Center’s team to look for a new partner for the male bird.
Being the more experienced parent, last year he was the one to take care of the egg and spent more time incubating it. Now, once again he has taken on the role of keeping the new egg safe.
