The first young Saker falcons from the Rescue Center went to freedom!

13.05.2022
Here comes the moment of the year to part with our Saker falcons, hatched at the Rescue Center of the Green Balkans.

Yesterday, in one of the adaptation aviaries in the field, installed in the branches of trees in the region of Stara Zagora, five young Saker falcons were redirected.

Preliminarily, the birds were examined, dewormed and marked with colored rings.

From their placement until the moment of take-off, the "Reintroduction of the Saker Falcon in Bulgaria" project team will take care of the young birds, feeding them. And, with the help of the cameras installed in the aviary, we will constantly monitor the life and behavior of the youngs.

This activity is part of our work on the return, as a nesting, of this species. An activity that started in 2010 and, thanks to which the first breeding pair of decades in our country was observed in the nature of Bulgaria.

The "Reintroduction of the Saker Falcon in Bulgaria" project is funded by the Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund and Armeec JSC.
