The first young Lesser Kestrel for the year was hatched

May 11, 2016

1
Literally sever hours ago, the first Lesser Kestrel for 2016 was hatched in the Lesser Kestrel Adaptation and Release Module in Levka village.

What is interesting is that the parents are Lesser Kestrels from the Wildlife Rescue Centre, that spend their second summer vacation in the Module. Except breeding they teach the parentless young birds in the adaptation aviary how to behave like proper Lesser Kestrels before their release.

The team has decided to name the chick with the great name Cyril, after one of the patron saints of this day – saint Cyril the Philosopher.

The young Cyril is growing up under the cares of his family, that have already managed to feed it with its first sclopendera. We are waiting for the next one to hatch, and if this happens until the end of the day, it will be named Methodius.

The team hopes that Cyril will be the first of tens of other young Lesser Kestrels the will see the light of day during this breeding season. That will grow-up, fly south for the winter, and will return in spring to Sakar, and in turn will have offspring of their own.
