The first Saker falcon family is back together!

The first Saker falcon family is back together!

17.04.2021
Seven days after the hatching of the first four Saker falcons in the incubators of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre - Green Balkans, and after being looked after by the “Saker Falcon Reintroduction in Bulgaria” team, the chicks are now reunited with their parents!

The adult pair readily accepted the fluffy chicks and immediately started their rearing by keeping them warm and feeding them! The names of this year’s first Saker falcon parents, which will be taking care of their hatchlings, are Luna and Dobri.

However, they mark only the beginning of what we hope will be a steady continuation of many more Saker falcon families in the Centre, rearing chicks to be afterwards released in the wild! We use the occasion to remind you that the project activities aim for the restoration of the Saker falcon as a breeding species in Bulgaria, after decades of disappearance.

To this end, the hatched in the Centre chicks are released in the wild through special adaptation aviaries.

The 'Reintroduction of the Saker Falcon in Bulgaria' project is funded by Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund and Armeec JSC
