The first Lesser Kestrel hatched in the colony in the Sakar village of Levka!

The day before, the first Lesser Kestrel for this year hatched in one of the artificial nests set by the Green Balkans team in the village of Levka.

The youngs are two and are a generation of birds released in the area years ago as part of the activities under the project 'Lesser Kestrel Recovery' Project, LIFE11 NAT/BG/360.
The celebration of the happy news became possible thanks to the video surveillance cameras installed in the couple's home.

According to the Green Balkans team, the number of Lesser Kestrel pairs is currently similar to previous years, ranging between 10 and 15 pairs.

We remind you that the return of the Lesser Kestrel to Bulgaria after its absence from the Bulgaria nature for decades became possible thanks to the efforts of the Green Balkans.

These small birds are good helpers against pests, as much of their food consists of insects and rodents.

It is interesting that the close observations of our pairs also show the rich biological diversity of the area, through the prey caught by the birds. Thus, for example, we were able to register a European copper skink  (Ablepharus kitaibelii), prey in one of the nests of the Lesser Kestrel.
