The cinereous vultures in the Green Balkans Rescue Centre laid an egg!

07.03.2023
Following the bearded and the griffon vultures at the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre, the time came for the pair of cinereous vultures to lay their first egg too.

After two months of intense copulations, it appeared in the bird's nest in one of the past few days.

Our team, however, did not leave the egg to the pair and on the same day we put it in an incubator. In this way, we hope to stimulate the female to lay another one and guided by our bitter experience in the previous years we hope to have better success and a hatchling this time around.

The family of cinereous vultures was formed in 2018 as part of the active at the time project "Bright future for the black vulture" LIFE14 NAT/BG/649, implemented by Green Balkans. This is the fifth breeding season of the pair. So far, the female has laid a total of six eggs, unfortunately, we haven't had any hatchlings, despite some of the eggs being fertilised.

We hope that this time things will be different and in around a month and a half we will share wonderful news...
