The Vienna Zoo donated an Egyptian vulture to the nature of Bulgaria!

30.03.2022
The one-year-old Egyptian vulture is among the newest inhabitants of the aviary of the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center.

The bird was donated by the Austrian Zoo - Schönbrunn. It was hatched in 2021 and is intended for release into the wild in Bulgaria as part of the activities of the "Egyptian Vulture New LIFE" project.

We are glad that over the years the cooperation between nature protection in Bulgaria and the zoos in Europe has become a tradition. A tradition in which zoos the size of Schönbrunn and Prague donate birds for the benefit of the Bulgarian nature.

After spending some time with us to adapt, the vulture, along with several others of its kind, will be redirected to an adaptation aviary in the Eastern Rhodopes. There they will spend some more time before they are finally released into the wild.

Thanks again to Anton Vaidal, who is in charge of the Egyptian Vultures in the EAZA Cooperation System.
