All 34 Sakers passed through the hands of the Centre's veterinarians. Each one was thoroughly examined, treated against external and internal parasites, and weighed. Fortunately, it was found that all the falcons are in satisfactory health.
During the vet exam, another part of our team took care of cleaning, disinfecting and repairing the aviaries, home to the feathered families. This time around as well, our trusty helpers were the veterinary medicine students from Trakia University, interning at the Centre.
We remind you that the Green Balkans team has been working for more than 14 years for the return of the Saker Falcon to Bulgaria. The pairs reared at the Rescue Centre raise offspring which we release annually within the framework of our programme. So far, we have released 169 birds, and from being extinct in Bulgaria, the species is now registered as a breeder, and we currently have three certain pairs in the wild!
The project "Saker Falcon Reintroduction in Bulgaria" is implemented with the financial support of the Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund.
Activities for the conservation of the Saker Falcon are funded by Armeec JSC.
