As of yesterday, the Green Balkans Rescue Center is home to a baby Bearded Vulture!
The chick hatched in the Center’s aviary, this time, unlike the last few years, without help from our team!
For the second day already, through the surveillance cameras installed in the nest, we are strictly watching how the adult birds take care of the newly hatched, and we are very pleased with what we see there! Ah, a quick inspection of the cub in the nest confirmed our opinion that the cub has very, very caring parents. We remind you that in Bulgaria the Rescue Center of Green Balkans is the only place where Bearded Vultures are bred. They are currently three pairs in total, two of which are still young birds and one has been breeding successfully since 2016, with this year’s baby vulture being their ninth in a row!
Bearded vultures at the Rescue Center are part of the European Endangered Species Program (EEP) of EAZA. All hatchlings hatched within the program are released into the wild in order to restore the species in Europe!
We would like to thank Alex Yoppis from the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF) for being with our team for yet another year and helping us make, as always, the best decision - to vote parents’ confidence!
