The Lesser kestrels at the Rescue Center of Green Balkans laid eggs

A few days ago, the first eggs appeared in the aviaries of the Lesser kestrels at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center in Stara Zagora.

At the moment there are 5 eggs, but the situation is very dynamic and the number changes every hour! This year, as well as the previous one, the pairs in the Center have overtaken their wild counterparts in the colony of the species in the village of Levka in Sakar, where we also expect the first egg to appear very soon!

We remind you that the birds are part of the activities of Green Balkans in the framework of the project "Life for the Lesser kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017, financed by the LIFE program of the EU. The project aims to support the currently existing colonies of Lesser kestrels, located in Stara Zagora, Levka and near Burgas, as part of the subsequent activities of the recovery of the species in Bulgaria.

Every year, thanks to the efforts of our team, dozens of young birds leave their native nests and become part of the wild population of the species in our country. This year we mark ten years since the return of the Lesser kestrel to Bulgaria and we hope to celebrate it with news of many babies that will successfully fly in the sky of our country during the summer.
