The event was organised by the Historical Park in cooperation with the Bulgarian Falconry Union, and special guests included representatives from the Regional Hunting Association Třebíč, Czech Republic. Dozens of citizens and bird of prey enthusiasts attended the event, showing particular interest in the activities of the LIFE for Falcons project.
Two birds — a Tawny Owl and an Eagle Owl — both permanent residents of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre, also took part in the competition in the bird of prey exterior category. They attracted great interest from the attendees, giving the Rescue Centre team an opportunity to speak about wildlife welfare, the efforts to reintroduce extinct species, and how everyone can contribute to this cause.
The LIFE for Falcons project is carried out by Green Balkans in partnership with several organisations, including the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBER–BAS) amongst others. The project focuses on the conservation and recovery of the Saker Falcon population in Bulgaria. During the project period, our work will include monitoring of nesting wild pairs, installation of artificial nest boxes, public awareness campaigns, and more.
