The Green Balkans`s team continues to take care of the released in the wild young Saker Falcons

Several days ago, the young Saker Falcons our team relocated in the adaptational aviaries in the field, have taken their first flight!

Of course, our team is constantly near the fledglings and makes sure they get enough food on their first, most dangerous days of their life outside the aviaries.
In addition to this, every day we follow the birds`s behavior with a spotting scope and binoculars and a specially placed on the feeding “table” camera trap gives us more information.

That way, our team found a lot of interesting photos. We observed how a Saker Falcon, bred in the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre and released last year, was feeding on the platform this season too. We know that thanks to the coloured rings placed on the bird`s legs. So far, this is the third bird released last year that we observe in the wild.

We like to remind, that all of the 10 Saker Falcons released through the adaptational aviaries this year are bred and reared in the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre of Green Balkans. They are part of almost 15 years of efforts from our organisation to bring back the species in Bulgaria. Efforts, that are bearing fruit and this year we already have three pairs, which had in total four fledglings.

The project "Saker Falcon Reintroduction in Bulgaria" is implemented with the financial support of the Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund and Armeec JSC.
