We needed to take the second egg of the Egyptian vulture pair in the Center as there was a potential competition due to the significant difference in the laying date of the eggs. In order to prepare the parents for the return of the second chick, when we took the egg we put dummy instead, which the pair continued incubating while taking care of the newly hatched first chick!
We are glad to conclude that the return was successful and after we fed the chick and it was already strong enough, we put it back with its family along with a piece of the egg shell, which we have kept after the hatching! Right after we left the aviary, the parents went to the chicks and started curiously examine the chicks!
The situation in the family nest is peaceful and we also witnessed the first feeding of both of the chicks!
We remind that the pair is donated to us by Prague zoo earlier this year and he chicks will be released in the wild after a few months within “Egyptian Vulture New LIFE” project (LIFE16 NAT/BG/000874)!
