The egg, the fruit of love of the Black Vultures at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center, was laid today.
Undoubtedly, the Black Vultures at the Rescue Center turned out to be a close-knit pair. The breeding season this year for them began already in autumn when the birds began to court and show mating behavior. Very soon after that they also started to repair the family nest, in which the vultures were very sociable and active. Fertilization attempts lasted two whole months, and the result is the egg laid today.
As the breeding of this pair is one of the activities of the project “Bright future for the Black Vulture” and the success will be another step towards the recovery of the species in Bulgaria, the team of the Center is making extraordinary efforts to help the pair get generation. For this purpose, the egg was taken from the nest and placed in an incubator, which will stimulate the vultures to lay a second egg and the chance of a hatchling is doubled.
The process of forming a pair of Black Vultures is long and it takes time for the birds to get used to each other, to gather experience in fertilization, brooding and raising offspring. Fortunately, our couple has already come a long way, and we hope that success will follow us in the near future.
