After the Black vulture pair at the Green Balkans' Wildlife rehabilitation and breeding center started making first mating attempts a while ago, now they have their first egg laid.
The eggs was laid on March 25, after we have observed a few copulation attempts. Since the pair was formed about a year ago, the birds are yet inexperienced in breeding, we cannot be certain that the egg was fertilized.
After we considered all the options possible, we decided to give them a second chance and stimulate them continue copulating. If the birds manage to keep their good pair bond and behavior, this can result in laying a second egg.
We will put the already laid egg in the incubator where we will continue monitoring it.
Thanks to our colleagues from the Vulture conservation foundation (VCF) for their advises and devoted experience exchange!
