The beginning of the year in the Green Balkans' Wildlife rehabilitation and breeding center is promising, as the Bearded vulture pair laid an egg!

Our team was nicely surprised by a newly appeared small whilte ball in Bearded vultures' nest early in the morning. We have been observing constant copulations for the last two months and we hope that the egg will be fertile, but only time will tell.

The Bearded vulture pair have been in the Center since 2008, it is the only breeding pair in Bulgaria and we hope that this will be their fourth year in a row as parents.

The species has gone extinct from Bulgaria in the middle of the last century. Green Balkans' are part of an international nature conservation group, led by VCF, which works for the recovery of the species in Europe, as some of the birds, hatched in our Center, are already flying in the sky above the Old Continent.
