Last week, a group of veterinary students at Trakia University, participants in the MES' 'Student Practices - Phase 2' project funded by the 'Science and Education for Smart Growth' Operational Programme co-financed by the European Social Fund and trainees at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre visited the Sinite Kamani Nature Park.
On the territory of the park our team works on the project "Bright Future for the Black Vulture", LIFE14 NAT/BG/649, within which it supports a herd of Karakachan breed of sheep. It was there, under the expert supervision and guidance of the Centre's veterinarians, that the students were trained in the various methods of recording and examining the general clinical condition of the animal, as well as determining the age by dental formula.
The second part of the future veterinarians’ visit to Sinite Kamani Nature Park was part of the monitoring of the nesting Griffon Vultures in the park, part of which we assume is Parvolet - the first Griffon Vulture hatched in the Green Balkans’ Rescue Center..As part of this activity, the students learned more about the life of Griffon Vultures in the wild and their enormous importance as carnivorous birds in preserving biodiversity and preventing the spread of infectious diseases among farm animals.
