Today at the “height” of the winter in the Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Centre at Green Balkans a stork in distress was taken in!
The bird was rescued and brought to us from Svilengrad’s region with the help of the municipality. During the examination, our veterinarians found out that the stork was lean and with problems in one of the wings.
With the years passing more and more storks are spending the winter in Bulgaria. In some places, they are a usual sight - the dams near the Thermo-electric power-stations.
This year separate storks are seen near the Bulgarian village of the White Stork - Belozem!
We can not know for sure why the number of storks spending the winter in Bulgaria is rising. A fact is their migration if food-based. In warm winters the lakes do not freeze and there is food to be found so the birds prefer not to take the dangerous path of migration but to stay on the old continent waiting for the spring.
