Three days after the first egg has appeared in the nest of the Imperial eagles, the female laid a second egg in the Wildlife rehabilitation and breeding center. Whether they are fertile, we will discover after the end of the 43 days incubation period.
The Imperial eagles pair has laid eggs for three years now. The first two years the eggs were infertile and the birds were not lucky enough to have offspring. We hope that the good courtship behavior and the copulations they have had since the beginning of the breeding period will bring results this year.
The Imperial eagle is critically endangered species on the territory of Bulgaria and each effort for its conservation is significant for the survival of the species. The captive breeding of rehabilitated birds and the release of their chicks will lead to increase of the population.

Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is the largest coordinated network for nature conservation. More than 30% of the territory of Bulgaria falls within the scope of the network - 120 areas for the protection of wild birds and 234 areas for the protection of natural habitats

In the past, the Imperial Eagle was one of the most common birds of prey. Today, the population of the species in the country is estimated at only 25-30 pairs, concentrated in the Sakar Mountains and the Derventski heights. Critically endangered, the species and its habitats are protected by the Natura 2000 ecological network.
