A Peregrine Falcon is the latest patient that the Green Balkans’ Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre has cured and released into the wild.

The birds, that came in the Wildlife Centre from the outskirts of Plovdiv was week and feeble. Our veterinarians made the usual examinations. Gladly the falcon was not seriously harmed, and after 6 days of stay in the rehabilitation part of the Wildlife Centre, the bird was redirected to a fly cage before its release into its natural habitat.

The “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project team, took upon itself to find a suitable area for the release of the bird, as well as transporting it to the site of its release.

We chose Sakar SPA, as part of the NATURA 2000 European Ecological network, and one of the most important Protected Areas in Bulgaria.

There are rare and protected birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrate and plants, not very widespread in other parts of the country.

Sakar is one of the top places for biodiversity of predatory birds and it helps for its quick adaptation to the wild nature, considering the low anthropogenic factor in the area.
