06.07.2020
Last week, Pomorie was at the training center for Trakia University students, volunteers at the Green Balkans Rescue Centre.

The first stop of the young people in the seaside town was their participation in a workshop 'Pollution of Lake Pomorie with litter' organized by Green Balkans, within the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program 2014-2020 (ENI CBC Joint Operational Program BLACK SEA BASIN 2014-2020). During their participation in the meeting, the students got acquainted with the importance of wetlands and particular Pomorie Lake, the extent of the problem of waste pollution, and mapped unregulated landfills in the lagoon, the impact of sea currents on waste disposal along the coast, a pilot study and the first results of a study of the content of microplastics in the waters of Pomorie Lake, as well as the activities and goals of other projects on the same topic.

In the afternoon, our volunteers visited Pomorie Lake, and the Green Balkans Visitor Centre, located on its shores, they got acquainted with the rich bird diversity of the wetland, which they had the opportunity to observe directly through telescopes and binoculars. Our guide told them about the problems of the lake, and some interesting moments from over 20 years of work in our organization there.
