On the way to warmer places…

Aug. 20, 2020

20 white storks were released today near the Stara Zagora village of Opan.

This traditional place, preferred by the Green Balkans Rescue Centre team, will be the birds' temporary home before their flight to warmer places in late summer. And, the roof of the old substation will once again briefly house the former patients of the Centre before they leave the place forever.

Some of the storks are young, raised in the baby sector of the Centrе, and the rest are adults who were missing feathers or needed rehabilitation in our clinic.

A land tortoise also became part of the inhabitants of the vicinity of the dam. We hope that it will welcome the storks for many years to come, which we will release from the Centre in the future.

Our constant helpers today, in addition to our young volunteers, were again the students of veterinary medicine from the Trakia University - Stara Zagora, studying with us within the 'Student Internships'  project of the Ministry of Education and Science.
