News from the saker falcon breeding programme in the Rescue Centre of Green Balkans!
20.03.2023
With the advent of spring, things are getting more and more interesting here at the Rescue Centre. There is so much news from our breeding programme that we hardly manage to tell you in time about every single one of them!
A few days ago, the team that is responsible for the breeding programme for saker falcons made an inspection of the eggs laid so far. A total of 10 were collected and placed in one of our incubators.
This method mimics a natural event in which when a pair loses their first clutch they lay a second one, which in our case will result in even more hatchlings this season.
After they were collected from the nests, the eggs were carefully examined, weighed, marked and placed in an incubator.
So far, out of 11 saker falcon pairs in the Centre, 8 are copulating and in total there are 28 eggs.
But this will not be the last such news from us - stay tuned for more details from the activities here at the Rescue Centre!
The project “Saker Falcon Reintroduction in Bulgaria” is funded by the Mohamed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund and Armeec JSC.
