А Griffon vulture, rescued by the joint efforts of BSPB, Green Balkans and Hunting reserve 'Studen Kladenets'28.08.2020
On August 26, a fisherman gave a signal to the Hunting reserve 'Studen Kladenets' about a drowning Griffon vulture in the Studen Kladenets Dam in the Eastern Rhodopes, Bulgaria. The Hunting reserve contacted a team of the LIFE project of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) "Egyptian Vulture New LIFE". The team was monitoring the species' nests near the area and responded immediately. From the hunting, reserve provided a boat and the search began. After about half an hour of inspecting the area, the bird was found and taken out of the cold waters of the dam. Read more..
Another field activity the Green Balkans completed. This time we were in the area of Provadia. There, near the village of Partizani, where a site for artificial feeding of Egyptian vultures was built, we installed a video surveillance cameras with which our field team can monitor the visitors of the site from a distance. On August 5th, a BSPB and Green Balkans team placed two young Egyptian vultures, hatched in the Prague Zoo and the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre - Green Balkans, part of the network of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) in two wild nests of the species in the Eastern Rhodopes. The bird from the Center is a generation of a pair donated by the Prague Zoo. This is an experimental method for strengthening the Balkan population of the Egyptian vultures and is being held for the third consecutive year within the LIFE project "Egyptian Vulture New LIFE".Read more..
