Nature conservationists and local hunters, relocated nine Mallard ducklings and their mother in one of the lakes in Sakar SPA (BG 0002021)

This is part of the partnership activities, that are carried out by Green Balkans and Levka village hunting-fishing group, Svilengrad municipality. It is done in the Sakar area where the nature organisation works on the project “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 with the financial aid of EU’s LIFE Program.

The goal of these joint activities is not only to aid the biodiversity, and the species typical for the area, but also to make the project activities more popular to the local people, hunters, farmers, etc.

The young Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) are hatched in the Wildlife Rescue Centre, where their mother was admitted earlier for rehabilitation.

The micro lake, a new home for the duck family, is a subject to special attention from the local hunters, they do not hunt actively there, and thus giving a chance for increasing the number of its inhabitants.

We would like to remind you that in the last few years Green Balkans and the local hunters have made several combined activities, as well as artificial feeding of the Imperial Eagle, and other birds of prey.
