Lesser Kestrels, Small Falcons in the Big Winter

Jan. 11, 2017

1
Are you cold in the winter? Yes? What about the Lesser Kestrels in the Green Balkans’ Wildlife Centre, a migratory species during this time of the year, they should have been soaring free in the worm African countries?

The birds in the Centre are lucky, for they have been under the attention of the most caring and dedicated people – the “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project team.

In the cold winter days, when people from the team observe almost around the clock the temperatures and behaviour if the birds. The food is abundant, nourishing and diverse, served to the little falcons four times a day! Apart from that, some of the nesting boxes, used by the little falcons for shelter during the winter days were isolated.

In the end, thanks to all these efforts, and in spite of the low temperatures outside, we may say that all Lesser Kestrels in the Wildlife Centre are in good health and are expecting impatiently the spring.
