The Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) is another extinct species from the nature of Bulgaria. Of course, the main role is played by humans with their activity. Although a bird of prey, it is mostly insectivorous. Part of its menu is agricultural pests such as grasshoppers, beetles, caterpillars, etc. However, with the modernization of agriculture and in particular the introduction of pesticides as the main method of insect control, Lesser Kestrels are gradually disappearing, mainly due to mass poisoning. In the past they lived even in Plovdiv itself, now all in all these species in our country are represented by two couples who live at the Rescue Centre. They are the hope for a whole species to return to the nature of Bulgaria.
Here are short videos with which you can take a look at the everyday life of our Lesser Kestrels and their fluffy little ones.
