After nearly two months’ stay at the Rescue Centre of Green Balkans, an operation on the legs, and long days of dedicated caretaking by the team of the Centre, Kralcho was set free.

We would like to remind you that we received this bird to be treated at our Rescue Center after officers of Svilengrad Municipality had found it shot in the region of Raykova Mogila village.

Kralcho was equipped with a satellite transmitter, kindly provided by our colleagues from BSPB, so that we can learn more about the bird’s health after the rehabilitation at the Rescue Center.

Children from the schools of Svilengrad, representatives of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water and the State Forestry Board, the mayor of Raykova Mogila village, media, and representatives of Svilengrad Municipality attended the event as part of the activities realized within “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project, implemented by Green Balkans in the region of Sakar with the financial support of LIFE program of the European Union. In the presence of all those guests we presented Kralcho and gave him a surname – Raykov, after the name of the village. Thus, hopefully, the local people will recognize the eagle as “theirs”, and will love and protect this bird, just like the Imperial Eagle protects the crop from hail, fighting storms and thunders as the old legend says.

We wish Kralcho bon voyage and hope that from now on we will only see this majestic bird through binoculars and spotting scopes.
