The purpose of the meeting was to acquaint hunters and foresters with our nature of work to protect birds of prey in Bulgaria. Activities that we carried out together with our colleagues from the Fund for Wild Flora and Fauna for many years to return the Griffon vultures and Black vultures in Bulgaria as nesting species, as well as Saker falcons.
The first part of the working meeting was with a presentation by Simeon Marin, who explained what standards should be covered for a site for feeding vultures, and good working practices that are proven over the years. Hristo Peshev from the Fund for Wild Flora and Fauna did a presentation on the poisoning of vultures in Bulgaria and around the world. Dr Hristina Klisurova from the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Green Balkans presented the project "Life for Falcons", whose activity is to protect falcons in Bulgaria. Dr Stefka Dimitrova demonstrated a practical activity - providing first aid to endangered wildlife, the last presentation was on the project Natura 2000 in Bulgaria - New Horizons - activities related to the European ecological network Natura 2000.
The second part of the working meeting took place in the field. We visited the adaptation aviaries and the sites for feeding vultures near Kotel and Sliven. The participants in the meeting had the opportunity to observe the release of a wild Griffon vulture equipped with a transmitter. And he, as a sign of gratitude, flew before their eyes and flew over them.
Nine more Black vultures have been released, we wish them good luck!
