The European ecological network NATURA 2000 is created with the goal of protection of the rare and protected species and their habitats in the European Union. Additional, compensatory payment ability, popularization of alternative tourism and potential for sustainable development of remote areas with conserved nature, this is what NATURA 2000 gives to the local population

This is why Green Balkans raised the initiative to mark May 21 – European NATURA 2000 Day

Here one may see rare and protected species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrate and plants, ones that are very rare elsewhere in Bulgaria. Such as the Imperial Eagle, Orchid, tortoises, etc. Not long ago the nests of the Lesser Kestrel – a small species of falcon, who was thought to have stopped breeding in Bulgaria – in Levka village were reconstructed thanks to Green Balkans’ project from the EU LIFE program.

May 21 Green Balkans’ Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora. The Centre’s hosts are having an Open day. Here the guests may get to know about Green Balkans’ the different projects for Lesser Kestrel’s Sake Falcon’s and different species of Vultures’ breeding in captivity, as part of the Organization’s Program for aid of the wild populations of these species in our country.
