Green Balkans celebrated the European Bird Day during Children and Dogs Holiday

08.10.2019
Last week a celebration for children and dogs was held in Stara Zagora.

The event was organized by the NGO “For People and Animals”, and we - a team from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre and a team from the project “NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria - New Horizons”, were invited to introduce visitors to wild birds. For this reason, we decided to combine the Children and Dogs Holiday with celebrating the European Bird Day.

We introduced citizens to the protected bird species, listed in the EU Birds Directive of the NATURA 2000 sites, that are admitted as patients at the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre. Everyone had the opportunity to see a real-life model of a Red-breasted goose and some of the patients at the Wildlife Centre - the Common kerstrel Vladko, the Tawny owl Chara, the Little owl Blaga and the Common buzzard Misho.

In the practical part of the event, veterinarians from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre gave a short demonstration and training on giving first aid to a wild bird with a broken wing.

Thanks for the invitation to celebrate this day together!
