The purpose of these visits was getting the teams acquainted with the conditions for accommodation of permanently disabled patients of the Rescue Center. On the other hand, these site visits gave us the opportunity to meet the people working there, learn about their problems, and see the steps, however small, they take to improve the living conditions for their residents. There is, of course, a lot to be done before Bulgaria’s zoos become places good enough for animals and people. It's a long way, and it has only just begun .....

Zoos have been proven to be effective in providing environmental education. Standing firmly behind this idea, the team of "Green Society in Action " envisages the implementation of educational initiatives in several selected zoos. Therefore, “Suffering wildlife” areas are to be established in four zoos in
Bulgaria. Since they provide certain specific conditions, these four zoos will be the new home of permanently disabled patients of the Rescue Center. Special signboards will inform the visitors about the human impact on wildlife, and will also give tips on how to live in harmony with nature. The signboards will also explain why these zoos keep disabled animals and how to proceed in case of a wild animal found in distress.

So, having considered all the facts carefully, we selected four zoos for the establishment of such information areas – in the towns of Dobrich , Stara Zagora, Lovech and Sofia.

However, we believe that the zoos in the towns of Haskovo, Pazardzhik and Varna also deserve to be encouraged for their efforts. Therefore, we will make special signs to be put in visible places encouraging the visitors to be more tolerant towards nature and its yet exhaustible resources.
