A team of BSPB and Green Balkans visited the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) and the Ben-Gurion University of Negev last month. The goal of the visit was to strengthen collaboration and to exchange experiences regarding the captive breeding of the Egyptian vulture and different release techniques.

The team visited Hai-Bar Nature reserve and its' facilities where INPA breeds Egyptian vultures and other raptor species. Important experience and information on the captive breeding of the Egyptian vulture were exchanged which will help the successful captive breeding of the species in the Balkans and thus improve the results of the restocking program and hopefully the recovery of the species across the peninsula.

The team also visited a number of Nature parks and Nature reserves in the south of the country such as Ein Avdat National Park and Ein-Gedi Reserve where rangers from INPA presented their work – management of feeding sites and trapping of vultures in particular and the parks themselves.

The “Egyptian Vulture New LIFE” project team expresses gratitude to Ohad Hatzofe and Ron Efrat for their hospitality and all the INPA rangers, and the Ben-Gurion University of Negev.
