Eco Festival Kazanlak 2019

Eco Festival Kazanlak 2019

A project team from “NATURA 2000 - NEW HORIZONS” by the LIFE 17 GIE/BG/371 program, the Green Balkans Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Center and trainee students from High School of Veterinary Medicine “Ivan Pavlov” - Stara Zagora took part in the Eco Festival in the city of Kazanlak (5-6 July).

During the two days of the festival the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted closely with some of the permanent residents of the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Center - the Common buzzard named Misho, the Common kestrel Vladko and the Little owl Blaga, which are all birds having permanent disabilities and cannot be released, but they still carry out an important mission. By getting in touch with them, people can better understand the dangers that have befallen them and more - how we can assist wildlife and why it is important to do so.

Visitors got familiar with Green Balkans’ activities, particularly with our work on the conservation of the important areas within the NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria and the protected bird species we have been working on returning for years.
The conclusive part of the Eco Festival was the release of five Common kestrels who underwent rehabilitation in the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Center and recovered from their injuries successfully.
Crosswind and good luck!

We would like to express gratitude to the organizers of the Eco Festival Kazanlak 2019, namely the Youth Development Center and the mutual cooperation with Kazanlak municipality!
