Dalmatian Pelican receives treatment at the Rescue Center

Dalmatian Pelican receives treatment at the Rescue Center

03.02.2009

The bird was received at the Center on February 2nd, the day celebrated by conservationists as the Wetlands Day, dedicated to these important areas harboring unique biodiversity.
Unfortunately, the pelican is in extremely poor condition, having an old fracture in its right wing. It was found in the dam of Rakitnitsa village (Stara Zagora region) by a local hunter. The reason for the fracture is not known yet, but anyway the wing will have to be amputated. The team, however, will first carry out a series of examinations, including X-ray, to see whether there are any ball-shots in the bird’s body.

Even though the pelican will not be able to survive in the wild, we hope it will be successfully treated and saved.
