Since yesterday, the Lesser Kestrel colony in the Levka village Module has group with 46 young chicks. The great number of the newcomers is thanks to our colleagues and partners to the project “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 from DEMA in Spain. Yesterday they sent us 40 young birds. They traveled from Spain to Bulgaria on a regular commercial flight in comfortable, appropriate boxes.
the Green Balkans’ team was waiting for the unusual shipment on the Sofia airport cargo terminal, and after all the paperwork was done, the birds were loaded up and transported to Levka village. There a group of 16 young Lesser Kestrels expected them. Earlier they were transported from the Green Balkans’ Wildlife Rescue Centre. They were hatched there in the middle of last month.
another surprise, was in store for our feathered friends, the children of “Hristo Botev” – Levka Primary School visited the Module. They had welcomed the young Kestrels, saw the acceptance process, and the placement in the release boxes, and thanks to the specialised surveillance cameras, they could see the behaviour of the newcomers in their new, temporary home.
the children received, and coloured themselves Lesser Kestrel t-shirts, that were a nice souvenir of this exciting day.
