Bats’ night in the Natural History Museum in the village of Cherni Osam

Our next stop of the campaign: International Bat Night 2022, was at the Natural History Museum in the village of Cherni Osam.
Together with the Natural History Museum in the village of Cherni Osam and the "Vasil Levski" National School for Mountain Guides -In the village of Cherni Osam, we held “Night of the Bats” with children from the village of Cherni Osam and the town of Troyan and the city of Sofia.
The "Night of the Bats" went on with a presentation telling about the types of bats that are found around the world and in our country. How they help us humans, why they matter, and what makes them amazing creatures, the only active flying mammals. There was also time for arts and crafts.
The event was also attended by colleagues from the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center, who presented a project: "Life for Falcons" (LIFE20 NAT/BG/001162) together with the tawny owl Chara, the little owl Blaga, the buzzard Misho and the kestrel Vladko. Birds with permanent disabilities who help us during all our performances.
The event coincided with the sports afternoon at the School for Mountain Guides in memory of Minko Zankovski. Anyone who wanted had the opportunity to climb the wall with the help of instructors or go down with a trolley over the Cherni Osam river.
Green Balkans are a member of the international organization BatLife Europe, with the support of the KFFOE (Austrian Coordination Center for Bat Conservation and Research).

There are 33 species of bats in Bulgaria, all of them are protected by the Biodiversity Act, and their refuges are protected within the Natura 2000 ecological network.
About Natura 2000:
Natura 2000 is the largest coordinated network for nature conservation. More than 30% of Bulgaria's territory is covered by the network - 120 protected areas for the protection of wild birds and 234 protected areas for the protection of natural habitats.
