An autopsy of a harbour porpoise was performed at the Green Balkans Rescue Center!
14.12.2022At the height of the student holiday, the team of veterinarians of the Rescue Center of Green Balkans, supported by our dedicated assistants, the students of veterinary medicine from Trakia University, performed an autopsy on a harbour porpoise.
The harbour porpoise was found on the Pomorie coast and, after coordination with the RIOSV Burgas, was brought to the Center for research and determination of the cause of death.
After a thorough examination and careful post-mortem examination, the veterinary experts concluded that the cause of death was pneumonia.
As a leading expert unit in the field of veterinary medicine for wild animals, in the last months of 2022, Green Balkans, represented by the Rescue Center for Wild Animals, is implementing a project before the Ministry of Environment and Waters, the main objective of which was to establish the cause of death of the dolphins found in the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea.
We hope to continue working in this direction next year.
We thank Dr. Kiril Dimitrov, from the Pathological Anatomy Section of the Department of General and Clinical Pathology at Trakia University for the consultation!
