A two-year-old female Egyptian vulture arrived at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre late last week.
It is a donation for the Bulgarian nature and was hatched in 2019, in the system of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums), and came to us, thanks to the assistance of Anton Vaidal, responsible for Egyptian vultures and the team of the Prague Zoo, whose employee is he.
The vulture is temporarily housed at the Rescue Centre, from where, together with other birds of the same species, in less than two weeks, it will leave for the aviary on the outskirts of the eastern Rhodopean village Potochnitsa to freedom!
This method called the 'Delayed-Release Method' has been practiced since the beginning of the 'Egyptian Vulture New LIFE' project, in which Green Balkans is a partner. It represents the release of one- and two-year-old birds through an adaptation aviary near a feeding site and proved to be one of the most successful to date!
